CMS Pays $7.7 Billion in EHR Incentives

If you want to know just how much money the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has dished out under the Medicare and Medicaid Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Programs, CMS has released the data:

The incentive program was created under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, with more than 300,000 physicians and eligible professionals and more than 4,000 hospitals signed up to participate.

In total, $7.7 billion has been paid out since its inception and it’s estimated that $27 billion in incentive payments will be paid throughout the lives of the two programs. To see a complete payment list broken down by individual state and provider count, go to the CMS website.
